The Field



Come on, out of the woods. Here is where our woods turn into fields! We can catch the mice that scurry here, or you can just play around in the tall grasses.

  1. Applefall padded in the fields with her apprentice. She looked behind her and paused. "What do you know already?" She asked.

  2. Darkpaw thought for a moment. "I've seen the hunter's crouch before, and some battle moves," he said. "But I never really tried myself..."

  3. "Why don't you?" Applefall suggested. "There's a mouse on the other side of that dirt mound." She whispered, pointing in the direction with her tail. "It doesn't realize we're here."

  4. Darkpaw tried to get into his best hunting crouch. He crept forward, seemingly quiet, and leaped up, but the mouse escaped from under his paws. He sat up, disappointed.

  5. "Nice try!" Applefall encouraged, "next time don't hesitate to long and," she placed a paw on his tail, gently, "keep you're tail still."

  6. Darkpaw looked at his tail, not noticing that he had unselfconsciously moved it. "O-OK," he said. "I'll try it next time."

  7. Applefall smiled and listened quietly. "There's a thrush in the woodland over their." She meowed nodding to the dense forest on the side of the field.

  8. Darkpaw perked up and quickly and silently dropped into his hunter's crouch, slowly creeping forward. When he figured he was near enough, he pounced, landing squarely on the small creature. He padded back to his mentor. "I did it!" he exclaimed.

  9. Applefall flicked him on the side with her tail. "Good job. Do you want to go back now and give it to Skybreeze and the kits?"

  10. Darkpaw's eyes shined. "Yeah!" he exclaimed, and started to bound off towards the camp. "Let's go!"
